- John Podesta’s Best Friend At The DOJ Will Be In Charge Of The DOJ’s Probe Into Huma Abedin Emails. Now that the FBI has obtained the needed warrant to start poring over the 650,000 or so emails uncovered in Anthony Weiner’s notebook, among which thousands of emails sent from Huma Abedin using Hillary Clinton’s personal server, moments ago the US Justice Department announced it is also joining the probe, and as AP reported moments ago, vowed to dedicate all needed resources to quickly review the over half a million emails in the Clinton case. In the letter to Congress, the DOJ writes that it “will continue to work closely with the FBI and together, dedicate all necessary resources and take appropriate steps as expeditiously as possible,” assistant attorney General Peter J. Kadzik writes in letters to House and Senate lawmakers.
- Could This Get Crazier? | By William Kristol (Weekly Standard) – A savvy friend, a lawyer with political and government experience, writes: “I think Director Comey should announce tomorrow that he is submitting his resignation to the President despite the fact that he believes his actions are totally justified by the situation and facts at his disposal. If the President disagrees with Comey’s decision to pursue the investigation he can accept the resignation. If not Comey will continue the probe. Let Obama be Nixon on day of the Saturday Night Massacre.”

(USA Today) – The Ohio governor, who has pledged not to vote for GOP nominee Donald Trump, voted by absentee ballot Monday and wrote in Sen. John McCain, Kasich spokesman Chris Schrimpf confirmed to The Cincinnati Enquirer. Schrimpf told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that Kasich voted straight-ticket Republican on his ballot and was comfortable tapping the Arizona senator for his vote.
6am – D Parents upset after a Montgomery Co. school cancels Halloween festivities. MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (ABC7) — Call it a cultural shift, inclusion or a generational change. But a Halloween furor is roiling some parents and students at Cloverly Elementary School in Silver Spring. “We’ve had a Halloween celebration which starts… in the afternoon with a parade,” says Carolyn Parker, a Cloverly parent. “We’ve had that as long as my son was a kindergartner here.” Until this year, the party, and the blacktop parade have been cherished traditions. Not anymore. When students got off the bus at school, not one Halloween costume could be found. “They thought like the kids that didn’t celebrate Halloween were like sad because they couldn’t spend any time with their friends,” says Raegan Nalls, a fifth-grader at the school. The Montgomery County School district Monday released a letter sent to parents by Cloverly principal Dr. Melissa Brunson on Sept. 30.
6am – E Donna Brazile Update:
- New email shows DNC boss giving Clinton camp debate question in advance. (Fox News) – Another leaked email has emerged showing Democratic National Committee boss and former CNN contributor Donna Brazile sharing a debate question in advance with the Hillary Clinton campaign — despite Brazile’s persistent claims to the contrary. CNN announced in a statement soon after the email became public Monday that Brazile had tendered her resignation and the network accepted it on Oct. 14, days after the controversy over Brazile tipping off the Clinton campaign initially broke. According to documents released Monday by WikiLeaks, Brazile sent Clinton Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri an email titled, “One of the questions directed to HRC tomorrow is from a woman with a rash,” the night before the March 6 CNN primary debate in Flint, Mich. “Her family has lead poison and she will ask what, if anything, will Hillary do as president to help the ppl of Flint,” Brazile wrote. The following night, Lee-Anne Walters, a mom whose twin boys stopped growing and whose daughter lost her hair during the Flint water contamination crisis, posed a question to both Clinton, the eventual Democratic presidential nominee, and her primary opponent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
- CNN Parts Ways With Donna Brazile After Debate Questions Were Provided to Clinton. CNN has severed ties with the Democratic strategist Donna Brazile, after hacked emails from WikiLeaks showed that she shared questions for CNN-sponsored candidate events in advance with friends on Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Ms. Brazile, a veteran political analyst for the network, was already on leave from CNN since becoming interim chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. On Monday, CNN said it had accepted her formal resignation on Oct. 14. “We are completely uncomfortable with what we have learned about her interactions with the Clinton campaign while she was a CNN contributor,” Lauren Pratapas, a network spokeswoman, said in a statement.
7am – A INTERVIEW: JOE PERSICHINI (PER-SIH-CHEE-NEE) — Executive Director of the DC Police Foundation and former Assistant Director in Charge of the Washington Field Office for the FBI
- Justice Department says it is moving quickly in the renewed investigation into Clinton email server. The Justice Department sent a brief letter to six lawmakers Monday, saying that the department will work closely with the FBI to take “appropriate steps as expeditiously as possible” in the renewed investigation into emails potentially tied to Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

- Now Huma is just ‘one of my staffers’ after close aide gets left behind on Ohio campaign trip while Hillary keeps up her war on the FBI in defiance of White House backing for Comey. (Daily Mail) — Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton blasted the FBI again Monday – and this time brought up the bureau’s probe into emails maintained by longtime aide Huma Abedin – dismissing the idea she did anything wrong while minimizing the role of her close staffer. ‘Now they apparently want to look at emails of one of my staffers – and by all means they should look at them,’ Clinton said, bringing up the FBI attack at the start of a rally before a room packed with students at Kent State University. ‘And I am sure they will reach the same conclusion they did when they looked at my emails for the last year. There is no case here. And they said it wasn’t even a close call,’ Clinton said. The staffer Clinton failed to name was Abedin, who has been at her side since Clinton was first lady. Clinton considers her like a surrogate daughter as well as longtime confidant. Abedin has been known for years to be Clinton’s gatekeeper, and has been revealed in State Department emails as someone constantly consulted on matters relating to Bill Clinton, top donors, close friends, celebrities, who gets face time with the first lady, and paid speeches that pose potential conflicts.
- Trump says he’ll turn Michigan for GOP on Election Day. WARREN, Mich. — Buoyed by tightening polls and large crowds in Grand Rapids and Warren, the Trump campaign swept into Michigan and promised to make the reliably blue state competitive on Election Day. Donald Trump told a crowd of several thousand people Monday that his staff told him he’s even in the polls statewide. “No Republican has won Michigan since like Reagan, and I say, I love Michigan and I see numbers and I’m up,” he said at Macomb Community College here. “For all the geniuses who work for me, they said, ‘You’re doing well in Michigan,’ and I say, ‘Let’s go win it.’ “

7am – D Clinton: I’d add Michelle Obama to my Cabinet. (The Hill) – Hillary Clinton says she is open to making first lady Michelle Obama a member of her Cabinet should she become president. “She’s made it pretty clear she wants to focus on important issues like girls’ education around the world – she and I actually talked about it when we were together in Winston-Salem [N.C.] – and I want to be the best partner I can be for whenever she wants to be involved in government again,” she said in an interview with Extra released Monday. “I think she wants to take a break from it, but if she ever wants to do anything like that, I would be the number-one person.” Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, added that she admires Obama’s work both in the White House and on the campaign trail.
7am – E Trespassing Charge Dropped Against Loudoun Co. School Board Member. The Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney has dropped trespassing charges against School Board member Joy Maloney, almost three months after she was arrested at a Donald Trump campaign rally. Maloney’s trial was scheduled for Nov. 9, but Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Plowman filed a nolle prosequi on Oct. 24 to abandon the charge in the case. Maloney, 45, was accused of interfering with a line waiting to get inside the Aug. 2 Trump rally at Briar Woods High School. A Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office report said she stepped in front of several attendees waiting to go inside. She was asked to go back in line, but refused to do so and then sat on the ground, according to the report. Organizers then revoked her ticket and she continued to refuse to leave. Maloney, wearing a “Love Trumps Hate” sticker, was charged with trespassing and taken into custody. A magistrate released her on a $1,000 unsecured bond. She has denied that she tried to prevent people from entering the school.
8am – A INTERVIEW — REP. JIM JORDAN – (R-Ohio) — the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus and member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee
- Jim Jordan: FBI letter ‘probably not the right thing for Comey to do’ (Washington Examiner) — Rep. Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, argued Monday that FBI Director James Comey erred by announcing the reopened Clinton investigation after new emails came to light only 11 days before election day. “I think this was probably not the right thing for Comey to do — the protocol here — to come out this close to an election, but it’s consistent. This whole case has been mishandled and now it is what it is,” Jordan said on Fox News. The emails were found during an investigation into former Rep. Anthony Weiner, who exchanged messages with a 15-year-old girl, and likely belong to his top Clinton aide Huma Abedin, his wife.
- John Kasich stands by pledge not to vote for Trump. (USA Today) – The Ohio governor, who has pledged not to vote for GOP nominee Donald Trump, voted by absentee ballot Monday and wrote in Sen. John McCain, Kasich spokesman Chris Schrimpf confirmed to The Cincinnati Enquirer.
8am – B Entertainment News:
- Live-action ‘Snow White’ musical in the works at Disney. (CNN) Disney is on a live-action roll and not looking to stop it any time soon. The studio is currently in development on a musical, live-action version of “Snow White,” CNN has confirmed. Erin Cressida Wilson (“The Girl on the Train”), is being pursued to write the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, whose credits include Oscar contender “La La Land,” are on board to write new original songs for the film. The film will be the latest in Disney’s growing collection of live-action movies adapted from animated tales. Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, came out in 1937.
- ‘Extra’ Exclusive with Hillary Clinton & Jennifer Lopez: Over the weekend, only “Extra’s” Tracey Edmonds was with presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Jennifer Lopez at the Get Out the Vote event in Miami, right after J.Lo took the stage to support the Democratic nominee. Tracey showed the former secretary of state photos of another of her huge celebrity supporters, Katy Perry, and her friend dressed as Hillary and Bill Clinton for a Halloween party. Katy’s boyfriend Orlando Bloom joined the fun by dressing as Donald Trump. Hillary reacted, “Oh, my — look at that!” Jennifer asked, “Is that them?” Hillary added, “This is shocking — oh, my gosh.” Lopez smiled, saying, “That’s amazing. They are hilarious.” Clinton laughed and said, “This is great! She could be me when we finish the campaign.”
- Bryan Cranston Would ‘Definitely Move’ to Canada if Trump Wins. We all know someone who talks about moving to Canada if the election doesn’t go how they hope. Bryan Cranston says the same thing- but he says he actually plans to leave the country if Donald Trump wins next Tuesday. The Breaking Bad actor was interviewed on “The Bestseller Experiment” podcast this week and of course the election came up. While he’s not a fan of Trump as president, or, it seems, as a person, he does find him fascinating as a character. “He’s such a tragic Shakespearean character,” he said in the interview. “He’s comedic as well, because of the tragedy of this man’s soul. The delusion that he has, the supreme narcissism. Beautiful character, amazing character. In the States, there will be classes taught on this election period. There will be books written, movies made. There will be theatrical productions about Donald Trump because of the anomaly he presented.”
8am – C Audio of Omar Mateen’s 911 calls during Pulse massacre released. (Orlando Sentinel) – The man on the phone said he was the person who had just opened fire June 12 inside Pulse nightclub, but Orlando police could not be sure. The caller, later identified as Omar Mateen, repeatedly hung up on the Orlando police negotiator who had to call him back more than a dozen times. From about 3:15 a.m. to about 3:20 a.m., officers could be heard in the background trying to pinpoint where Mateen might be. The background noise was “sterile,” said one officer, as if he were in an office. Or a bathroom, said another. The nearly 30 minutes of audio of Omar Mateen’s 911 calls were released Monday. The written transcripts of the calls were made public in September. Mateen was the one who first made contact with police, calling 911 and pledging his allegiance to the Islamic State. He recited part of a prayer in Arabic before telling the dispatcher in English that he “did the shooting.” Throughout the calls, Mateen repeatedly said he committed the attack to “stop the U.S. airstrikes” on Iraq and Syria. “They’re killing a lot of innocent people,” Mateen said, sounding nervous. “So what am I to do here, when my people are getting killed over there? You get what I’m saying?” The negotiator asked him whether he had done something about that. “Yes, I have,” Mateen said.
