WASHINGTON — (WMAL) If you receive an email from [email protected] be wary.
The DC Attorney General’s office is warning residents of an email claiming to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles. The email asks consumers to pay late fees and past due fines, and includes a link that claims to resolve the issue at hand.
Clicking that link could compromise personal information. Rob Marus of the DC Attorney General’s office says “if you follow that link then your information is going to be stolen, either through a virus or through some other means.”
Consumers should only receive emails regarding traffic violations if they registered for the Department of Motor Vehicles email ticket alert system. Otherwise, residents receive a notice of traffic tickets in the mail.
The Attorney General’s office is asking that any messages received from the email address above be reported to the Federal Trade Commission.
