6am – E         Ahmad Rahami’s dad accused son of being a terrorist in 2014. (USA Today) — ELIZABETH, N.J. — Bombing suspect Ahmad Rahami surfaced on the FBI’s radar about two years ago when Rahami’s father allegedly referred to his son as a terrorist, federal law enforcement officials told USA TODAY on Tuesday. Federal investigators also are seeking to question Rahami’s wife, who recently left the country to visit relatives in Pakistan, according to the officials, who were not authorized to comment publicly. The wife’s travel, while of interest, did not immediately appear to be related or timed to Rahami’s alleged bombing campaign, they said. Authorities arrested Rahami, 28, on Monday following a shootout with police in nearby Linden, and charged him with multiple counts of possessing a weapon without a permit and attempting to use it to kill the officers who apprehended him. He is a suspect in the New York City bombing that wounded 29 people Saturday in addition to other bomb incidents in the city and nearby New Jersey in which no one was hurt. Mohammad Rahami, his father, made the terrorist claim during a domestic quarrel in which Ahmad Rahami was allegedly brandishing a knife in a confrontation with a brother, according to the official. During the incident, the official said, a neighbor heard Mohammad Rahami order his son out of the house, calling him a terrorist.

7am – A         HILLARY NEWS:

  • Clinton campaign won’t say why it postponed a fundraiser today. Hillary Clinton postponed a meet-and-greet with donors at the last minute Tuesday, and her campaign still hasn’t offered an explanation. Clinton’s team would only say that there was a scheduling conflict. They offered no further detail. A spokesperson for the Democratic nominee’s campaign did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s multiple requests for comment. The now-postponed event, “Conversation with Hillary,” was to be held in Chapel Hill., N.C. The “lunch with Hillary Rodham Clinton” was to be held at the home of Better Craven and Michael Warner, according to local news affiliate WRAL.com. The event “had four donation levels to attend,” according to a separate CBS News affiliate. “Those contribution levels were described as $100,000, which featured ‘chair reception with Hillary,’ $33,000, which included a ‘host reception with Hillary,’ $5,000, which included ‘preferred seating’ and $2,700,” the CBS report noted.
  • Hillary Clinton Vows to Speak ‘Directly to White People’ to Stop Racial Police Shootings. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton vows she’ll tackle the racism in the nation’s law enforcement system. “We gotta tackle the systemic racism, this horrible shooting again, how many times do we have to see this in our country?” she said in an appearance on the Steve Harvey show. Clinton was specifically referring to the police shooting of Terence Crutcher in Tulsa, Oklahoma, saying he had his “hands in the air” when he was killed. “This is unbearable and it needs to be intolerable,” she said. Clinton told Harvey that if the African-American community came out and voted for her, she would work to stop racial shootings by police officers. “Maybe I can by speaking directly to white people say, ‘Look this is not who we are,’” she said. “We’ve got to do everything possible to improve policing, to go right at implicit bias.
  • Poll: Clinton’s Lead Over Trump in California Drops. Hillary Clinton’s lead over Donald Trump has dropped significantly in California, according to a new poll, continuing a recent tightening nationwide between the two candidates. A Field/Institute of Government Studies poll released Tuesday from the University of California, Berkley shows that since July, Clinton’s lead in the Golden State has dropped seven points, the Washington Examiner reports. Clinton still holds a 17-point lead over Trump in California, but she enjoyed a 24-point margin earlier this summer. Clinton currently has the support of 50 percent of likely voters while Trump has support from 33 percent. Six percent say they are voting for Green Party candidate Jill Stein, and five percent are backing Libertarian Gary Johnson. Another six percent are still undecided.
  • Bill Clinton: ‘Natural’ for foundation donors to seek favors.  (CNN)Former President Bill Clinton sought to address concerns about his family’s namesake foundation in an interview Monday, admitting that while “it was natural” for donors to seek favors from the Clintons, he’d “trusted” that the State Department under Hillary Clinton would appropriately handle potential conflicts of interest. “It was natural for people who’ve been our political allies and personal friends to call and ask for things. And I trusted the State Department wouldn’t do anything they shouldn’t do,” Clinton told NPR in an interview that aired Monday morning. He also maintained that he would sever his connection to the Clinton Foundation if Hillary Clinton is elected president to remove any conflict-of-interest concerns, though he acknowledged the move would be “hard.” “It is hard, but you know, if Hillary is elected, I’m looking forward to it,” Clinton said. He noted that he’s worked for the foundation “longer than I’ve ever had any job — and I loved it.” “And you know, we always say in response to our critics that nobody in my family ever took a penny out of this foundation and put millions of dollars in. But I would have paid more to do this job. It was the most fun thing I’ve ever done,” Clinton added.
