WASHINGTON — (WMAL) The first lawsuit related to Maryland’s medical cannabis program has been filed.
Green Thumb Industries Maryland is challenging the state’s medical marijuana commission after it denied the company a license during the bidding process.
In August, 15 preliminary licenses to grow marijuana were awarded.
GTI Maryland is accusing the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission for “changing the rules after the game has been played.”
“We are not advocating a delay, we are not advocating throwing the whole thing out. We just want the rules that were supposed to be followed that would put us back in,” said Sterling Crockett, GTI Maryland General Manager.
The commission’s rankings named two growers which were bumped out the top 15.
Two other growers were moved up on the list because of geographical considerations.
A spokesperson for the attorney general’s office says the office does not comment on pending litigation.
The office is responsible for legal counsel for the commission.
