5am – A/B/C Obama vs. Trump’s America: Which America Do You Live In?

5am – D         New iPhone Coming Out Friday and Samsung Phones Going On Fire:

  • Let the lines begin! Consumers line up for new iPhone before Friday’s release. Apple’s iPhone 7 won’t be available until Friday but already some consumers are getting in line in hopes of being some of the first to buy the new phone. Or they’re selling their spot to the highest bidder. This Twitter user is selling his spot in line at Apple’s New York City store for $300. The user also points others are selling their spot for $3,000.  Meanwhile, the first of Apple’s new launches comes out Tuesday as the new iOS becomes available.
  • Samsung to limit battery charging on Galaxy Note 7 phones to prevent fires. (CNN) – As it races to replace millions of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones around the world, Samsung has come up with a way to stop the devices from catching fire: update the software. Samsung (SSNLF) said it’s planning to roll out a fix next week for Note 7 phones in its home market of South Korea that will prevent the batteries from charging above 60% of their capacity. “This plan is for the safety of the customers,” the company said in a front-page ad in the newspaper Seoul Shinmun. It wasn’t clear if or when the software update might be extended to other affected countries like the U.S. Samsung, the world’s biggest smartphone maker, is recalling 2.5 million Note 7 phones globally after dozens of users complained of the devices bursting into flames while charging.

5am – E         CBS News on Bill Clinton edit controversy: Change made ‘purely for time’ (The Hill) — CBS News has responded to a controversial edit of a Charlie Rose interview with former President Bill Clinton that did cut out his comment that Hillary Clinton “frequently” fainted in the past. “The clip in question from former President Clinton’s interview with Charlie Rose ran in its entirety on CBS THIS MORNING, CBSNews.com and on CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 digital streaming news service,” the network said in a statement. “One clip that ran on CBS Evening News was edited purely for time while on deadline for the live broadcast.” Rose asked the former president if Clinton suffered from mere dehydration or if her condition was something more serious.  “Well, if it is, then it’s a mystery to me and all of her doctors,” Bill Clinton said. “Frequently — well, not frequently, rarely, on more than one occasion, over the last many, many years, the same sort of thing’s happened to her when she got severely dehydrated, and she’s worked like a demon, as you know, as secretary of State, as a senator and in the year since.” CBS News said the edit was made because of time constraints. It takes 1.9 seconds for Bill Clinton to say “frequently — not frequently.”  No other edits appear to have be made to the two versions of the interview mentioned in the CBS statement.

6am – A/B/C Trump Outlines Childcare Affordability Plan with Ivanka by His Side. ASTON, PA — Donald Trump on Tuesday filled in the details of the childcare affordability plan he floated at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland over the summer. He did so with his daughter Ivanka Trump, an energizing force behind the policy, and behind him. Trump’s plan allows for a federal income tax deduction of childcare expenses for up to four children and elderly dependents. It is capped at the average cost of care in the state and is available in single-income households making up to $250,000 and $500,000 in joint-income households. Further, it guarantees six weeks of paid maternity leave, paid out of the unemployment insurance fund, to women whose companies don’t provide the benefit. Ivanka introduced her father, speaking passionately about the need to ameliorate the burdens of childcare costs. “This is not a women’s issue,” she said. “It’s a family issue, it’s an American issue.”

6am – D/E     Highlights of Oversight Hearing on Hillary’s Emails:

  • Three witnesses refused to testify before a House panel investigating Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. Two computer technicians invoked their Fifth Amendment right while a third, Brian Pagliano who set up Clinton’s private server, declined to appear despite a subpoena to do so. Committee chairman Republican Jason Chaffetz  says Pagliano may face consequences for not appearing while Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the committee, said the Republicans’ sole purpose is to embarrass Clinton.

7am – A         INTERVIEW – RON MEYER- member of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors (Broad Run District)

  • Motion to censure Loudoun School Board member Joy Maloney for Trump rally arrest fails. The Loudoun County School Board voted against considering a motion to censure board member Joy Maloney (Broad Run) for her Aug. 2 arrest at a Donald Trump rally at Briar Woods High School. Board members Jill Turgeon (Blue Ridge) and Eric DeKenipp (Catoctin) co-wrote a resolution for the board to formally condemn Maloney for her actions at the rally. Community members spoke at the meeting to ask the board to not censure Maloney and to let her have due process in court for her actions before reprimanding her. Maloney is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing tomorrow morning on a trespassing charge. Before Chairman Eric Hornberger (Ashburn) had a chance to read the motion to introduce the resolution aloud, Brenda Sheridan (Sterling) objected to considering it. Hornberger then asked the board to vote on whether or not to discuss the resolution at all. DeKenipp asked Hornberger why Sheridan’s motion to object was allowed. The chairman cited a page of Robert’s Rules of Order that said “objection to consideration takes precedence” over the original motion. The board ultimately voted against discussing the censure, with six opposed, Maloney abstaining and Turgeon and DeKenipp in favor.
  • Loudoun Democrats rally support for Maloney ahead of School Board censure vote. Jill Turgeon (Blue Ridge) and Eric DeKenipp (Catoctin) wrote a resolution to formally condemn Maloney’s actions at the rally. The board is set to vote on the resolution at Tuesday night’s meeting. The Loudoun County Democratic Committee recently sent out a press release asking those who support Maloney to speak at tonight’s meeting and to contact their School Board representative. Maloney is scheduled to appear in Loudoun County General District court tomorrow morning for the trespassing charge against her.

7am – B         UCLA freshman sends roommates list of demands before semester begins. (Fox News) — Moving into a new place right out of high school can cause some anxiety for incoming freshman and it doesn’t really help when the new roommate isn’t the person you expect them to be. One UCLA freshman, identified as Ashly, has already caused a rift after making some demands to her two roommates, that she hasn’t even met yet, in an email that has since gone viral, Fox LA reported Tuesday. One of the roommates, identified as Winnie, who received the email shared Ashly’s message on Twitter earlier this month. The email read: “Okay so I’m not sure why neither of you responded back to my emails, but I don’t really care as long as you both know this and understand that I’m not going to settle for anything less than what I’m gonna tell you that I’m gonna get once I arrive in the dorm. I’ll take the top bunk. I DO NOT want the single bunk where it has a desk underneath the top bunk so don’t try to leave me that. I’m also taking one of the white closets. There should be two white closes and I’m taking one of them. I don’t care which one it is, just know I’m taking one of them. I want the desk that’s near the window. Plain and simple. I don’t care about who gets the bottom bunk but just know that what I stated above is what I’m expecting once I arrive at the dorm and I won’t be in the mood for any arguing or other nonsense because one of you two decided to deliberately disregard this email. IF needed be I’ll turn it into a bigger situation so don’t try me. Sorry but not that sorry for the attitude. I don’t like being ignored because that’s just rude but that’s what you both decided to do so I decided to make it clear now on the kind of person I am and what I will and will not take. So as a final reminder: I am getting the top bunk of the bunk bed with the bed on the bottom, I am getting one of the white closes and I’m getting the desk near the window. That’s fair enough to ask considering that I’m giving up fighting for the top bunk.”

The third roommate, identified as Guistinna Tun, wrote back a day later to Ashly saying that her and Winnie were more than willing to compromise on the living situation, but called her out on her sense of entitlement and listed other things that they didn’t appreciate in the seemingly rude email.

7am – C  Donald Trump is expected to sit down with Dr. Oz Wednesday, to tape an episode for Thursday in which Fox News reports Oz will analyze the results of a physical Trump took last week.  Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton continued to rest at her Chappaqua, New York, home Tuesday, while high-profile surrogates like daughter Chelsea, running mate Tim Kaine, and President Obama stumped on her behalf. The Clinton campaign continues to face questions about why they didn’t disclose the former Secretary of State’s pneumonia, before she had to leave a ceremony at Ground Zero Sunday. She plans to return to campaigning on Thursday.

Dr. Oz pledges to avoid questions Trump ‘doesn’t want to have answered.‘ Mehmet Oz on Tuesday promised to ask Donald Trump “pointed questions” about his health when he sits down with him this week, but in the same interview Oz pledged that he will not ask Trump “questions he doesn’t want to have answered.” Trump, a reality TV star in his own right, plans to take part in a taping of “The Dr. Oz Show” on Wednesday in which he’s expected to disclose more details of his personal health, including the results of a physical he received last week. The episode is due to air Thursday and will add to the fierce attention being paid to the health of both major-party candidates, especially in the wake of Hillary Clinton’s near swoon near a 9/11 memorial service on Sunday and the subsequent revelation that she had been diagnosed Friday with pneumonia.

7am – D         INTERVIEW — KT MCFARLAND – Fox News National Security Analyst

  • Secretary Of State John Kerry On Syria Cease-Fire: ‘What’s The Alternative?’ (NPR) — Four days after Secretary of State John Kerry announced — with many notes of caution — a new U.S.-Russia deal on a cease-fire in Syria, he tells NPR’s Steve Inskeep that it is the best option, and one to which the U.S. remains committed.
  • Kerry Brokers Trump’s Plan for Syria
  • Iran Threatened to Shoot Down U.S. Surveillance Planes. U.S. aircraft challenged as they flew over the Strait of Hormuz on routine patrols, U.S. officials (WSJ) — WASHINGTON—Two American surveillance aircraft flying in what U.S. officials said was international airspace near Iran were threatened by Iranian air defense stations over the weekend, and were told by the Iranians to alter their course or face fire. The two U.S. Navy surveillance aircraft were challenged by Iranian military officials on Sept. 10 as they flew over the Strait of Hormuz on routine patrols, U.S. officials said. Using ground-to-air communications, officials at the Iranian air defense station told the crews they were flying near Iranian airspace and that if they didn’t change their course quickly they risked being fired upon, according to a spokesman for U.S. Naval Forces Central Command  in Bahrain, Cmdr. Bill Urban. “We will fire Iranian missile,” was one of the transmissions from the ground, he said. Both the American planes were threatened in three separate radio calls, Cmdr. Urban said in a statement.

7am – E         Entertainment News:

Following over eight months on the road performing epic, personal-record-breaking sets on his River Tour, Springsteen will go right back out on the road to promote his new memoir, Born to Run. • Bradley Cooper tells Michelle Obama he didn’t wear underwear to the White House. Bradley Cooper divulged to first lady Michelle Obama that he wasn’t wearing anything under his suit during his last trip to the White House. Cooper surprised the first lady on the set of “Ellen” Tuesday and admitted that when he attended a state dinner in 2014, he wasn’t wearing underwear. “I had just done ‘American Sniper,’ and I only had one tuxedo that didn’t fit,” Cooper said. “I was so nervous that it would rip, so I decided at the last minute to 86 the underwear.” Ellen DeGeneres joked back, “Right, because if it should rip, it’s much better to not have the underwear on.” Obama on the other hand praised Cooper for his decision to go commando: “For us! It’s good for us, right ladies?”

8am – A         INTERVIEW — BYRON YORK — Chief Political Correspondent for the Washington Examiner

  • Byron York: The brilliance of Hillary Clinton’s ‘deplorables’ / What does Byron think of Trump’s handling of Hillary’s health? He seems to been disciplined and let the story remain on Hillary and focused on her “deplorables” comment.
  • Byron York: Facing Clinton stonewall, Congress ponders next move. The House Government Oversight Committee subpoenaed three key figures in the Hillary Clinton email scandal to testify at a hearing Tuesday. Two declined to testify, citing their Fifth Amendment rights. A third refused to show up at all.

8am – B         Colin Powell’s Emails Hack:

  • Powell warned Clinton not to make him fall guy over email scandal, leaked messages reveal. Leaked messages from former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s email account showed Tuesday that he attempted to persuade Hillary Clinton and her aides from using him as a scapegoat for the controversy surrounding her private email server. According to The Intercept, Powell wrote to one confidant that he told Clinton several times not to blame him for the scandal. “I told her staff three times not to try that gambit. I had to throw a mini tantrum at a Hampton’s party to get their attention. She keeps tripping into these ‘character’ minefields,” Powell wrote. He also had tried to settle the matter in a meeting with Clinton aide Cheryl Mills in August. Powell added that he “warned her staff three times over the past two years not to try to connect it to me. I am not sure HRC even knew or understood what was going on in the basement.”
  • Trump a ‘National Disgrace,’ Colin Powell Wrote in Hacked Emails. Newly revealed emails hacked from the private account of former Republican secretary of state Colin Powell show the retired four-star general repeatedly blasting Donald Trump, describing him as a “national disgrace” who engaged in a “racist” movement. A spokesperson for Colin Powell told ABC tonight that the emails revealed “are accurate,” and declined any further comment.

8am – C         Rolled Ice Cream Hits D.C. (Eater)DUPONT CIRCLE: The rolled ice cream trend will hit D.C. with the arrival of Icy Code at 2029 P St. NW (where the whimsical Thomas Foolery used to be). Signage is up. [PLYWOOD]

Trending in NYC: Thai-Style Ice Cream Rolls. (Zagat) – Forget crazy flavors or over-the-top ice cream sandwiches, this summer’s hottest dessert is a frozen treat that’s made its way to NYC by way of Thailand. Thai-style ice cream rolls have debuted at not one, but three shops this season, but what exactly makes this chilled specialty different from your typical scoop? It’s made to order, for one.  Here’s how it works: An ice cream base and your choice of add-ins are poured onto an anti-griddle, a metal plate that can get as cold as -4 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the owners of I-CE NY.  Then, in Cold Stone-esque fashion, the staff chops and smashes the ingredients together with metal paddles as they start to freeze. In just minutes, the cream firms up and it’s spread into a thin layer, then scraped into the chubby rolls that we’re seeing all over Instagram.

8am – D/E     Trump Outlines Childcare Affordability Plan with Ivanka by His Side. ASTON, PA — Donald Trump on Tuesday filled in the details of the childcare affordability plan he floated at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland over the summer.
