Fort Belvoir, VA — (WMAL) If you see a large police presence near Ft. Belvoir, don’t be alarmed.
An active shooter response drill is set to take place at Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital this morning. The drill is set to run roughly between 9 A.M. and 11 A.M., and will be completed in two parts.
The first part will be a mass casualty assistance, which will occur in the back part of the hospital. The second part will be an active shooter incident in the hospital. While the drill won’t be to visible to the public, people should be aware of extra traffic coming out off Pence Gate and an increase in helicopter traffic in the area.
Active shooter response drills happen every year. George Markfelder of the Joint Force Headquarters National Capitol region says “this particular training it gives us to create inner operabiility with our inner agency partners as well as to keep our skills honed to a professional level to a respond to any crisis that may come up.”
Hours of operation for the parts of the hospital in use will return to normal after noon today.
