WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Washington Gas has about 15,000 customers who have not been able to make payments online for several weeks now, and a few of them have even had their gas cut off as a result.
Washington Gas spokesman Jim Monroe told WMAL that several customers did have their gas cut off, and that the company regrets it. The utility has now put safeguards in place to make sure no one else has their gas cut off as a result of their mistake.
“We believe we’ve identified the fix,” said Monroe. “We’ll keep customers posted on that.”
Monroe says the gas company has had problems with its recently installed online payment system, but says they believe that the problem has been identified and will soon be fixed.
In the meantime, Monroe says customers have several options for payment, including by phone or, in an even more retro method, by snail mail.
