Residents in Flint are fed up with how long it’s taking to replace the city’s lead service lines but according to a new report by the engineering firm Rowe, it could take several years and hundreds of millions of dollars.

According to the report, the proposed infrastructure project will cost more than $214 million. It includes $80 million to dig up and replace 10,000 lead pipes — that’s more than three times the $25 million in funding in a budget proposed by Governor Snyder.

Meanwhile, Flint residents said they just want to see more pipelines replaced soon so they can finally start drinking their water again.

A spokesperson for Mayor Karen Weaver told TV5 the mayor is asking city council to reduce permit fees by $2,000 which would help lower the costs for pipe replacement.
