OXON HILL, MD — (WMAL) With the main surfboard-shaped building getting enclosed, the interior work of painting, decorating, and installing slot bases at the new MGM Casino at National Harbor has begun, according to General Manager Bill Boasberg.
“The building is almost closed in, so we’re really starting to work on all the interior finishes,” Boasberg told WMAL. “We have about 2,000 construction workers on site right now.”
He said they’re aiming for an opening in the fourth quarter of this year. To that end, they’re beginning to hire dealers and other workers.
“We’re starting to find all our great employees. Our dealer school started a few weeks ago,” Boasberg said. “You learn blackjack first, and then after that you’ll go into another course and either take craps or baccarat, one of the specialty games.”
All 74 suites at the on-site hotel are being decorated as well, he said.
“The suites will have floor-to-ceiling windows of awe-inspiring views of the national monuments, the Potomac,” Boasberg said. “I think the views are really second-to-none.”
Boasberg said they are making good on their promise to Prince George’s County to hire locally.
“We’re going to have 3,600 jobs that will come from this area. I think it will be a real positive economic impact to the entire region.”
The $1.2 billion property is expected to feature the 308-room hotel, retail space, a spa, seven restaurants, a theater, and a meeting space in addition to 135,000 square feet of gaming space.
