WASHINGTON (WMAL)– Police have arrested a Maryland man suspected of plotting to hire a hitman to kill his wife.

After receiving a tip that Aafaq Manejwala of Laurel, Md. was looking for someone who would be willing to commit a murder, Howard County police arranged for an undercover detective to pose as a potential hitman. Manejwala met with the detective three times in the last month, offering him $15,000 to carry out the murder.

“[He] was looking for this to appear to be a botched robbery or burglary at the house,” Howard County Police Department spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn said. “He provided photographs of his wife to the undercover detective, and also a video recording of the interior of his home.”

Manejwala and the undercover detective had their final meeting yesterday, when Manejwala handed over a partial payment. At that point, police took Manejwala into custody.

Manejwala faces two charges: solicitation of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
