(CNN) — A train derailment in upstate New York has caused a hazardous spill, resulting in the evacuation of some homes near the town of Ripley.
The 15-car Norfolk Southern train derailed late Tuesday night, according to a statement from New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Three of the cars carrying hazardous liquids fell on their sides, one of which is leaking ethanol, the governor said.
No injuries or fires were reported, but emergency responders were on the scene to contain the spill. Several homes near the site were evacuated, Cuomo said.
Hazmat teams are among those working to plug the leak.
“We will continue to respond to the situation as it develops and take all necessary actions to keep people safe,” Cuomo said.
Norfolk Southern did not immediately comment on the incident.
