WASHINGTON– (WMAL) The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $5000 reward in exchange for information about the starving of a Mastiff in Prince George’s County.
The dog, whom rescuers named Violet, was found in a wooded area in Clinton, Md.
“She was just in horrific condition,” says Rodney Taylor, chief of Prince George’s County Animal Management Division. “Very emaciated. Every bone in her body was prevalent.”
Mastiffs typically weigh 150 pounds, according to the Humane Society. Violet weighs only 56.4 pounds.
Violet is recovering in a rescue shelter in Rockville. She will stay with a foster family until she is healthy enough to be adopted.
“We’re just trying to restore her so she can hopefully finish her life in a loving forever home,” Taylor says.
