Bethesda Chevy Chase High School Teacher Arrested for Distributing and Possessing Child Pornography

Greenbelt, Maryland –A federal grand jury indicted Peter Flynn, age 61, of Silver Spring, Maryland on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 for distributing and possessing child pornography.  

Flynn is a special education teacher at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. According to the two count indictment, on April 3, 2014, Flynn distributed child pornography, and on September 30, 2014 he possessed child pornography. 

"Mr. Flynn was removed from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in September when we were informed about the federal investigation," Gboyinde Onijala, a spokeswoman for MCPS, told WMAL in a statement. "The allegations against him in this case are not related to his job. He is currently on administrative leave. As soon as we were notified that an indictment had been handed down, the principal notified the community as quickly as possible."

Mr. Flynn began in MCPS in May 1978 as a substitute teacher’s assistant. He was hired as a special education paraeducator at B-CC in 1979 and in 1980 became a special education teacher at B-CC and worked there until September.

Flynn faces a minimum mandatory sentence of five years in prison and a maximum of 20 years in prison for distributing child pornography; and a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for possessing child pornography, followed by up to a lifetime of supervised release.
