DC transportation officials now say they are backing away from the proposal to close two-thirds of a mile of I-395 for a year or more.
A developer had asked for the road closure, to speed construction of a massive new office complex that will sit atop the roadway. But once the idea was publicized, objections started pouring in, from commuters and politicians alike.
Mayor Vincent Gray issued a directive yesterday that DDOT withdraw the plan.
