Six people are now dead after a small jet crashed into a home in Gaithersburg. This happened just before 11 this morning along Drop Forge Lane, less than a mile from the Montgomery County Airpark.
Montgomery Fire Chief Steve Lohr says crews were on the scene within moments, but had to fight the flames from the outside because it was too dangerous to go inside.
Montgomery County Fire Chief Lohr said, "dispatch with possible people trapped so they were fully engaged, went to work right away, entered through the garage doors, and press for the tack lines, fighting the fires he went, as far as he could go before they encountered structural damage."
Three people were aboard the plane. The pilot and two passengers were killed.
The pilot killed is identified as Michael Rosenberg, CEO of North Carolina-based company, Health Decisions, Inc.
Also killed were three people in a home the plane hit. The victims are Marie Gemmell and her two children.
Robert Sumwalt with the National Transportation Safety Board said, "We will not be determining the cause of the crash while we are here. We are simply here to collect the factual information."
He says he and his team are at the scene to collect the "perishable evidence," which he describes as "information that can go away with the passage of time."
He says investigators will be on scene from three to seven days, depending on how long it takes to accomplish those tasks.
