WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Virginia Delegate David Ramadan confirmed he continues to receive threats in response to critical comments he made about Donald Trump and spoke on the phone with FBI officials early Tuesday evening.
“[It was] a general discussion with a few specific examples,” said Ramadan. “[It was] not to deal with any immediate threats but several threats that need to be watched.”
Ramadan says he spoke with Paul Abbate, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington, D.C. field office.
Ramadan says he’s “in this fight for the long run” and that he won’t back down to what he views as bullying.
“What’s right here is to defend the rules and the regulations that we have in Virginia as a party that fall within the laws of the commonwealth and the rights to run a party system the way we run it. No bullying or threats could ever deter me from speaking my mind.”
Ramadan has received more than 5000 hateful and threatening messages. One tweet warned that the Delegate should start carrying a gun for self-defense.

The “bullying” comes after a tweet Ramadan wrote calling Donald Trump a “moron” for criticizing a Virginia election law that requires republican primary voters to officially register with the party.
Ramadan says when Trump campaigns through Virginia, he won’t shy away from the criticism that sparked such an uproar.
“This unacceptable behavior within my party by one or several candidates and their supporters is never going to be something that discourages me,” he said.
