WASHINGTON — (CNN) A son shot another man Monday after the man allegedly shoved his 95-year-old mother.

The incident occurred while a family was at a storage facility in Lawrenceville, which is about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta.

Police said the family — including the 95-year-old mom, her son and daughter — were moving property from the storage facility when a man in his twenties parked near their vehicle, got out of his vehicle and “began exhibiting suspicious behavior.”

Police said the man was accused of pacing and staring at the family.

Police said an argument eventually started between the man and the family, which is when the 95-year-old mother was allegedly shoved several times.

The woman’s son retrieved a gun and warned the man several times not to assault his mother, according to police.

Police said the man “advanced towards the son and was shot once in the upper torso.”

Police said the incident appears to be a self-defense shooting and they do not plan on charging the son, but are still interviewing witnesses and reviewing video.
