BETHESDA — (WMAL) While most restaurants close their doors on Christmas Day, a local breakfast chain is staying open for a special crowd.

The Original Pancake House’s Bethesda and Falls Church locations are serving free breakfast to the homeless today.

Menu items include eggs, orange juice, bacon and, of course, pancakes.

Operations Manager David Dennison said that the Original Pancake House will serve 1,700 homeless people in Maryland and Virginia today.

“It’s an undescribeable event, to give out to a community like this,” Dennison said, “especially on Christmas Day.”

The Original Pancake House is also gifting homeless participants donated items, including winter coats and toys.
