WASHINGTON (AP) – Attorneys for a man charged with three murders in Alexandria over the last 11 years have asked a judge to throw out the charges against him, or at least limit the evidence prosecutors can present against him at trial.
The Washington Post reports that defense attorneys for 54-year-old Charles Severance made the request in filings in Alexandria Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Defense attorneys argue that Severance was taken into custody on a bogus weapons charge and that evidence police collected after his arrest in West Virginia should be deemed inadmissible.
Severance is charged in three fatal shootings, including the wife of a former sheriff, a transportation planner and a music teacher.
Alexandria Commonwealth's Attorney Bryan Porter declined to comment.
Severance's trial is set for Oct. 5.
