D.C. officials are working quickly to organize a memorial service to let the citizens of the District say their goodbyes to the man dubbed "Mayor for Life." There are no dates or times yet as few arrangements had been made prior to Barry's death.
Mayor Vincent Gray said a memorial service for Barry could be a week or more away because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
“It would not surprise me if it was the week after. That would make more sense to me,” Gray told the Washington Post. “We want everybody who wants to participate to have an opportunity be able to do that.”
Gray said he expects Barry's body to lie in state at the Wilson Building, and he expects thousands will come to pay their respects.
Barry died Sunday night from heart problems caused by high blood pressure.
