WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Five Alexandria city schools are currently on lock-in following a bank robbery on North Washington Street this morning. Two suspects pulled out a weapon and stole money.

As a precaution, the following schools are all now on lock-in:

  • George Washington Middle School
  • Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology
  • Maury Elementary
  • Charles Barrett Elementary
  • Mount Vernon Community School

Note, this is not a lockdown, but a lock-in. A lock-in is held if a threat is identified outside of the school.

“All school doors are locked, but classes continue as normal,” explained city school spokesperson Helen Lloyd. “There is no entry or exit in or out of the school.”

Alexandria City Schools are requesting that parents do not call the school during the lock-in, but follow the updates on the city schools’ website. They will be notified when the emergency ends.
