5am – A/B/C Paris Attacks: How Should We Respond?
5am – D Republican Candidates Urge Aggressive Response After Paris Attacks. (NY Times) — Visions of two Americas emerged from the 2016 presidential field on Saturday, at the Democratic debate and at Republican campaign events, as the candidates sought to project leadership after the Paris attacks and maneuver for political advantage in a rare moment when national security held voters’ attention. A dark portrait of a vulnerable homeland — impotent against Islamic State militants, susceptible against undocumented refugees and isolated in a world of fraying alliances — came into sharp relief as several Republicans seized on the crisis to try to elevate terrorism into a defining issue in the 2016 election. Leading Republicans like Donald J. Trump, Ben Carson and Senator Ted Cruz of Texas called on the Obama administration to halt plans to accept 10,000 Syrian refugees next year. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, warning that the Islamic State would leverage the Paris attacks to add recruits and raise money, said the United States needed to move immediately to assemble a stronger coalition to fight the militants. And former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida urged Americans to recognize that “an organized effort to destroy Western civilization” is underway. The Republicans also broadly agreed that the Paris attacks should be the catalyst for a new military strategy against the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, which has claimed responsibility for the carnage on Friday. “This will be coming to America,” Mr. Cruz warned grimly. “ISIS plans to bring these acts of terror to America.”
5am – E Redskins Crush Saints 47-14. Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins threw four touchdown passes, two to Jordan Reed, and 324 yards and the offense bullied their way for more than 200 yards rushing on their way to a 47-14 beat down of the New Orleans Saints.
6am – A/B/C INTERVIEW — JAKE WALLIS SIMONS – Global Associate Editor, DailyMail.com — located in Paris — discussed the latest news about the Paris attacks.
6am – D/E Winners and losers from the second Democratic presidential debate. The three Democrats who debated in Iowa last night were very, very concerned about the Paris terror attacks and the growing evidence that ISIS—or Da’esh, as it is called in the region—has metastasized into a true global threat. Very concerned. Bernie Sanders even thought that this barbaric challenge to civilization should be “eliminated”…although it was not as great a threat as global warming, he allowed, which—hold on, here—causes terrorism. You know, droughts and floods set people in motion and…well, never mind. Sanders’ utter lack of proportion on this issue—and yes, climate change is a serious problem, but not the immediate threat to our security that Islamic terror is—is a classic example of how the American left lives in a hermetically sealed bubble, just as the American right does. And the left, and its solipsistic insistence on political correctness, is having an undue influence on the Democrats’ presidential candidates in 2016.

7am – B Celebrity Paris Reaction:
- Rob Lowe DEFENDS Paris attack tweets after being slammed for ‘disgusting and inhumane’ comments. (Daily Mail) — Rob Lowe is facing a backlash over a tweet he sent out following the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday night. Following the horrific attacks on the French capital, which are now said to have killed around 130 people, president François Hollande gave a speech declaring a national state of emergency and saying that the French borders were to be closed. One of Lowe’s comments said: ‘This is either the worst translation of an important speech ever, or one of the worst ever given #Hollande’. Many of his fans took to Twitter, dubbing it as ‘the worst tweet of all time’. The former ‘West Wing’ actor reacted to the news with a post on his official Twitter page saying: ‘Oh, NOW France closes its borders.’
- U2 cancels HBO /Live Nation concert in #Paris following Paris Attacks. Bono on Paris attacks: ‘This is the first direct hit on music.’ (Rolling Stone) U2 were rehearsing at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris Friday night, less than three miles away from the Bataclan concert hall where the Eagles of Death Metal were playing, when they got word of the terrorist attack on the city. “Our security locked it down pretty quickly and we got our team and our crew out of there safely,” Bono told Irish DJ Dave Fanning in a radio interview Saturday. “We came to the back door of the hotel. Everyone congregated and watched the TV like everybody else in disbelief with what was happening. We’re all safe.” U2 have been gigging all over Europe for the past two months, leading up to a planned show Saturday night in Paris set for broadcast on HBO. “If you think about it, the majority of victims last night are music fans. This is the first direct hit on music that we’ve had in this so-called War on Terror or whatever it’s called,” he said.

7am – C Ronda Rousey Hospitalized After Being Knocked Out by Holly Holm at UFC 193, Marking First MMA Career Loss. UPDATE: Ronda Rousey released a statement Sunday night after her surprise loss. “I just want to thank everyone for their love and support. I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I’m fine,” she explained on Instagram. “As I had mentioned before, I’m going to take a little bit of time, but I’ll be back.” Ronda Rousey’s 12-fight winning streak is over and her first MMA career loss, which many have called the biggest UFC upset in history, has landed her in the hospital. About 59 seconds into the second round of UFC 193, opponent Holly Holm, 34, kicked the 28-year-old UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion in the head, knocking her to the ground, and then continued to fight her before the referee pulled her away. “She was transported [to the hospital] because she got knocked out,” UFC President Dana White later told reporters about Rousey.
7am – D INTERVIEW — REP MIKE ROGERS — former Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee
- President Obama still plans to allow 10,000 Syrian refugees into the country, despite terrorist attacks (The Hill) — President Obama still plans to allow 10,000 Syrian refugees into the country over the next year, despite terrorist attacks in Paris, at top aide said Sunday. “We’re still planning on taking in Syrian refugees,” White House Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes said on “Fox News Sunday.” “We had very robust vetting procedures for those refugees.” “There are women and children, orphans of this war, and I think we need to do our along with our allies to provide them a safe haven,” he added. Rhodes said France should take the lead in how to respond to the attacks that left 129 dead in Paris on Friday. At least one of the Paris terrorists reportedly entered France by posing as a migrant. “I think we would stand shoulder to shoulder with France in whatever decision they make,” he said. “In any case, we’re going to be cooperating with them militarily going forward.” Rhodes said he does not envision a U.S. ground campaign in Syria.
- French spies failed to pick up chatter about Paris attack. (Times) — A major failure by European intelligence services allowed the Paris attacks to happen, British security experts claimed last night. There is concern that a sophisticated terrorist plot involving known suspects, extensive planning and the acquisition and movement of guns and explosives across European borders did not register on the intelligence radar. Questions are being asked about what, if any, security investigations were pursued after a man was stopped while driving through Germany to France last week with a cache of arms and explosives in his car.

8am – B Alabama, Michigan governors refuse to relocate Syrian refugees after Paris attacks. (Fox News) — The governors of Alabama and Michigan said Sunday that they would not resettle any refugees from Syria in their states, amid reports that at least one of the Paris attackers slipped through Europe’s immigration system and concerns about “gaping holes” impacting America’s screening process. 8am – D INTERVIEW — ANDREW MCCARTHY — a contributing editor at National Review and author of his latest book “Islam and Free Speech” (April 2015), published by Encounter Books. He is a former Chief Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
- How France Became an Inviting Target of the Jihad / Posted By Andrew C. McCarthy On November 14, 2015 Earlier this year, following the Charlie Hebdo massacre and related terrorist attacks in and around Paris, I wrote Islam and Free Speech, a “Broadside” that is part of the series published by Encounter Books. The following is an excerpt. How did we get to this historical anomaly in France where, as the estimable scholar Daniel Pipes observes, “a majority population accepts the customs and even the criminality of a poorer and weaker community”? It is the result of a conquest ideology taking the measure of a civilization that no longer values its heritage, no longer regards itself as worthy of defense.
8am – E RIP Austin Hill.
