WASHINGTON — The heart of DC’s downtown business district has been shutdown Monday morning as police investigate a barricade situation that began as a call for someone having a mental health crisis.
Police have expanded road closings to include I, K, L and M Streets, Northwest between 18th and 21st Streets, and police are advising motorists to avoid the area until further notice. The area is largely populated by office buildings that house many law and lobbying firms.
DC police have tweeted out that the person of interest has been “contained”, but is not yet in custody. There were earlier reports of an active shooter in the area, but that is apparently not the case. Police say they will “proceed with an abundance of caution.”
