WASHINGTON — (WMAL) In the tradition of Redskins rookies footing the bill for the veterans of the football team, the newbies paid a hefty price for a swanky dinner. The total: just over $22,000.

It’s a rite of passage that happens every year at the expense of the newcomers to the team. This year, the Redskins ‘rookie dinner’ took place at Mastro’s Steakhouse in downtown D.C.

This time around, the defensive veterans were taken out by several defensive rookies: Corey Crawford, Deshazor Everett, Kyshoen Jarrett and Preston Smith.

The veterans by no means took it easy on the newbies, either. Ordering up such dinner favorites as lobster tail, steak sashimi and bone-in filet mignon, the players racked up a bill of $22,159!

Team strong safety Jeron Johnson posted a picture of the final total on his Instagram account. Here’s just a small portion of the bill:

Side-note: Whoever ordered that shot of Macallan 25 Scotch must have been a real wise guy. We did our research here at WMAL, and we found out that a bottle of that scotch in the U.S. costs an average of $1,288!

But don’t feel too bad for the Redskins rookies! Paying the big bill at dinner only happens once a year for players.

Also, all the newcomers were good sports, splitting the final check evenly.
