WASHINGTON — (WMAL) It seems like everyone wants a piece of Trump these days, including the progressive advocacy group, People for the American Way.

People for the American Way (PFAW) just launched new radio ads for Spanish-language stations this week, encouraging Hispanics to go out and vote for Democrats in local elections.

The ads reference Donald Trump’s recent, controversial comments about Hispanic immigrants, as well as other comments made by members of the Republican party.

One ad depicts a conversation between a Spanish-speaking mother and her daughter. The mother encourages her daughter to go out and vote for the Democrats in the Virginia elections. Why? Well, for starters, she says, (in Spanish) ” to shut Trump’s big mouth.”

The mother finishes by telling her daughter, “We have to vote for Democrats and say NO to Trump and the Republicans, mi’ja. On November 3rd.”

PFAW has done similar ad campaigns in the past against Ken Cuccinelli, the former Attorney General of Virginia. Cuccinelli attempted to pass a wide variety of anti-immigrant legislation through Virginia’s local government.

“Cuccinelli compared immigrants to rats and pest control, to be exterminated, and [there was] a whole bunch of vile legislation that he cosponsored,” said Randy Borntrager, PFAW political director.

Borntrager said that Republicans are alienating a lot of immigrants with their rhetoric.

“On the national level, it’s offensive,” said Borntrager. “I mean, we see people using terms like ‘anchor babies’ to refer to children born to undocumented immigrants.”

So far, the ads are set to run on WKDV-AM, WTNT-AM, WBQH-AM and WDCN-FM. The ads will run for two weeks and end on Nov. 3, Virginia’s local election day.
