FT. MEADE, MD — (WMAL) Six Anne Arundel County schools will be closed Thursday as a precaution as police search for a man who crashed a stolen car into a gate at Fort Meade Wednesday evening before running off.

Police say the suspect crashed on National Security Agency property and fled on foot into the installation. As a result, Fort Meade is also under reduced operations Thursday. The Rochenbach gate at the base, where the crash occurred, remains closed, but officials say the gates at Mapes and MD. Rt. 32, the Llewellyn and Reece Road gates will operate normally.

The schools that will be closed Thursday include:

Meade High School
Meade Middle School
Macarthur Middle School
Manor View Elementary School
Pershing Hill Elementary School
West Meade Early Education Center

The search continues for the suspect.

Earlier this year, a transgender woman was killed and a passenger was wounded when police opened fire after the pair tried to gain unauthorized entry with a stolen SUV at a National Security Agency gate at Fort Meade.
