WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Food trucks in Montgomery County (MOCO) may soon have designated “zones,” easing traditional businesses’ concerns about unfair competition.
The exact definition of a “food truck service” will also be considered. Current county laws define food trucks as they would any other food vendor with a regular route.
If the proposed legislation is passed, food trucks will also be allowed out for longer hours. Current food truck availability times are 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. If the bill passes, the availability will change to 5 a.m.- 10 p.m.
MOCO Council Member Nancy Floreen co-sponsored the bill, which she said was an idea by a group of students who were learning about county government.
Floreen said it’s odd that food trucks have these kinds of restrictions in the first place and doesn’t think the trucks will interfere with traditional, restaurant businesses.
Maryland food trucks can usually be found in Silver Spring and Rockville.
