WASHINGTON — (WMAL) The baby panda at the National Zoo is developing black markings on his skin and fur.
A newly released photo of the little boy shows him resting on a table with tiny black paws and dark circles over his eyes.
Other markings on the panda’s body are similar to those of his father, Tian Tian.
He weighed less than half a pound when he was born but he has since grown to a whopping two pounds of cuteness.
This weekend he was seen scooting around his enclosure on the Panda Cam and is also slowly gaining hearing and eyesight.
Pandas spend most of their development outside the womb and most of the baby’s bodily functions will mature in the next few weeks.
His mother, Mei Xiang, is in good health and recently ate a pear, her favorite snack, for the first time since giving birth.
