ASHBURN, VA — (WMAL) Rule number one for Twitter users. Think twice – or maybe even three times – before you post.

Jessica McCloughan, the wife of Redskins General Manager Scot McCloughan, no doubt wishes she had heeded that rule when she aimed a vulgar tweet at ESPN (and former WRC-TV ) reporter Dianna Russini, essentially accusing Russini of using sex to get exclusive scoops about the Redskins.

Russini broke the story earlier this week that Kirk Cousins would be replacing Robert Griffin III as the team’s starting quarterback, and later reported there was some dissension within the team’s front office over the decision. Shortly thereafter, Russini was blasted on Twitter with this message:

“Please tell us how many BJ’S you had to give to get this story. And did they laugh at you before or after?”

The team initially claimed the tweet came from a fake Twitter account, but Jessica McCloughan eventually admitted she was the author, and the team released this apology from her:

“I deeply apologize for the disparaging remarks about an ESPN reporter on my personal Twitter account. The comment was unfounded and inappropriate, and I have the utmost respect for both the reporter and ESPN. I regret that my actions have brought undeserved negative attention to the Redskins organization and its leadership. My comments in no way reflect the opinions or attitudes of the organization and I regret that my behavior has in any way negatively impacted the team and its loyal fan base.”

Jessica McCloughan’s Twitter account has since been taken down.

ESPN responded with a statement of its own Wednesday evening: “Dianna is an excellent reporter who should never have to be subjected to such vulgar comments. We are obviously extremely disappointed by today’s developments.”
