Active Shooter Reported at Tennessee Movie Theater

Police responded Wednesday to reports of an active shooter at the Carmike Hickory 8 movie theater complex in Antioch, Tennessee, a Nashville police supervisor said Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Police tweeted shortly after the incident that the suspect was dead. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

WASHINGTON — (CNN) Police responded Wednesday to reports of an active shooter at the Carmike Hickory 8 movie theater complex in Antioch, Tennessee, said a Nashville police supervisor.

The Metro Nashville Police Department reported shortly after 2 p.m. (3 p.m. ET) that the “suspect (is) dead.”

It was not immediately clear if anyone else was killed or injured in the incident.

The suspect also had a hatchet that he may have used to wound one person, Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron told reporters.

The suspect was killed during a gunbattle with a SWAT team after earlier exchanging gunfire with one police officer. The suspect also had two backpacks with him, Aaron said.

Antioch is a suburb of Nashville, about 15 miles southeast of the city.
