WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Gov. Chris Christie spoke at a town hall meeting at Blake’s Creamery Inc. in Manchester, New Hampshire, where he told people that he has used birth control.

“We should all acquit ourselves in a that way we believe is consistent with the teachings that we follow, if we follow certain teachings from a religious perspective,” Christie told a crowd of about 120, according to a co-owner of the creamery. “That’s what I’ll always continue to try to do. I mean, for instance, I’m a Catholic but I’ve used birth control, and not just the rhythm method, OK? My church has a teaching against birth control. Does that make me an awful Catholic? Because I believe and practiced that function during part of my life? I don’t think so.”

Ann Mirageas, co-owner of Blake’s Creamery said that Christie’s remarks were in response to a question posed by a man in the audience about how to interpret the bible.

“And it doesn’t mean that Gov. Christie’s interpretation is right, or the others’. He said that we’re all going to interpret it differently and we need to respect different religions,” Mirageas told WMAL.
