Despite legislative election losses, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin’s approval rating remains high, according to a new survey.
The Nov. 7 election left Virginia Republicans disappointed as Democrats held control of the state Senate and flipped control of the House of Delegates.
However, Youngkin received a 2 percent higher approval rating in the last month of 2023 than he did in the first month of the year, according to Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy.
The survey of 625 Virginia voters found Youngkin’s approval rating sitting at 58 percent, according to the polling firm.
37 percent of those surveyed disapproved of his performance with 5 percent saying they were unsure.
The poll was conducted shortly after Youngkin announced a proposed deal to move the Washington Wizards and Capitals to a new arena in Potomac Yard, Alexandria. The move faced local pushback on both sides of the Potomac River.
Youngkin’s approval rating is narrow in the Northern Virginia suburbs where 48 percent approve of the governor and 46 percent disapproving of the job.
The survey had a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
