Virginia Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton announced she will not seek re-election in 2024 following a recent diagnosis.
The announcement came after she revealed her Parkinsons disease diagnosis last spring. However, she has now been diagnosed with Supra-Nuclear Palsy (PSP), an even more aggressive neurological disorder that is often mistaken for Parkinsons.
Wexton shared in an X post that she is, “heartbroken to give up something [she has] loved after so many years of serving [her] community.” Moving forward, Wexton will be spending valued time with her family, including her two sons.

Kristophe Diaz, the Executive Director of the non-profit organization CurePSP, commends Rep. Wexton.
“We commend her for being public about it because many choose not to,” Diaz told WMAL News. “They want to focus on their own management of it which is understandable. In this case it helps the entire community to accelerate some solutions hopefully.”
Wexton’s diagnosis of PSP does not respond well to treatment and has no known cure, according to CurePSP.
