Ohio was home to the first primary election on Tuesday, where the nation watched on to see if the endorsement power of former President Donald J. Trump was still intact. To the surprise of few, candidates with the Trump stamp of approval had a huge night.
The big winner of the nigh J.D. Vance, the Trump endorsed venture capitalist and author of the “Hillbilly Elegy”, emerged victorious in a crowded field of Senate hopefuls. The Ohio Senate primary was a major test for Trump’s endorsement power, as conservative PACs such as the Club for Growth backed challenger Josh Mandel and another candidate, Matt Dolan, served as the moderate conservative in the race. In the end, Vance was victorious and showcased the power still held by the former president in swaying the outcome of primary elections.
Ohio Congressional District 7 candidate and former Trump staffer Max Miller also received a major bump from the president’s endorsement, as he sailed to victory in the Tuesday primary. In what began as a large, competitive field quickly became Miller’s to lose after receiving the endorsement.
While there are still many primary elections to be held nationwide, if Tuesday was any indication of what lies ahead, Trump’s ability to influence elections up and down the ticket is still as strong as ever.
