Vulnerable Democrats Urge Biden to Reconsider Title 42 Expiration

By WMAL.com

Democrats desperate to appeal to voters in swing districts are calling on President Biden to reconsider his Administration’s position on allowing Title 42 to expire. The Trump-era federal health order enacted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) bars people from entering the United States for public health reasons during the pandemic and allows for border patrol officials to send illegal immigrants back to their native country immediately upon apprehension.

Sen. Gary Peters (MI), Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, has voiced concerns about allowing the provision to sunset, “Unless we have a well thought out plan, I think it is something that should be revisited and perhaps delayed. I’m going to defer judgment on that until I give the administration the opportunity to fully articulate what that plan is.”

A poll conducted by Morning Consult/ Politico this month showed that 56 percent of registered voters in the U.S. oppose the decision to allow Title 42 to expire. The result of the poll follows a troubling trend for democrats of Americans not supporting their policy positions. Swing state democrats are scrambling to reign in the Biden Administration in an attempt to appeal to moderate and independent voters heading into the Fall midterm elections.
