This week the Biden Administration announced its plans to bring an end to the Trump-era Title 42, which is expected to open the floodgates for a surge in illegal immigrants entering the United States at the southern border. Former Virginia Attorney General and acting Secretary of Homeland Security Ken Cuccinelli joined the Vince Coglianese Show on Thursday to breakdown the end of Title 42 and what Americans expect as a result of its end.
- Title 42: a federal health order enacted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that bars people from entering the United States for public health reasons during the pandemic. It allows for border patrol officials to send illegal immigrants back to their native country immediately upon apprehension.
- What Cuccinelli said: “this is not an accident at the border. This is policy. This is very intentional. The radical left doesn’t think that America is special and wants to erase our borders and our country as we’ve known it through all our history, and they’re using an invasion to do it an invasion to do it.
- Political implications: democrats are fearful that that a surge in illegal immigration will only continue to divide their once strong relationship with suburban Hispanic voters. The democrat part has seen a mass exodus of the Hispanic voting block over the past two years.
- What Republican leaders are saying: “You would think there would be some concern about the politics of this … I think this is a disaster for the administration and for Democrats generally,” Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) in an interview with Axios.
