Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) entered materials from the notorious Hunter Biden laptop into congressional record on Tuesday during a hearing on oversight of the FBI’s Cyber Division.
- Setting the stage: the entry occurred following an exchange between the Florida Congressman and Assistant Director of the FBI’s Cyber Division Bryan Vorndran. Gaetz grilled Vorndran after he claimed that the FBI had no information about the status of the laptop hard drive.
- What Gaetz said: “That is astonishing to me. Has the FBI [Cyber Division] assessed whether Hunter Biden’s laptop could be a point of vulnerability, allowing America’s enemies to hurt our country?” Gaetz later added “So, will you commit to give us a briefing as the assistant director of FBI cyber as to where the laptop is, whether or not it’s a point of vulnerability, whether or not the American people should wonder whether or not the first family is compromised?”
- Vorndran’s response: “Sir, FBI’s cyber program is based off of what’s codified in Title 18, Section 1030, which talks about computer intrusions … Sir, it’s not in the purview of my investigative responsibilities.”
- Gaetz took to Twitter immediately following the hearing to the post the video of the heated exchange with the caption “SUBPOENA HUNTER BIDEN!”
