McCarthy Predicts Big GOP Victory in Midterms: “It’s not Going to be a Five-Seat Majority”

By WMAL.com

Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) projected great confidence in an interview on Thursday in his prediction that republicans will reclaim the majority in the House in the midterm elections this Fall. McCarthy did not stop short at just predicting victory; he claimed that they will far exceed the five seats needed to take back the majority.

  • What he said: “We’re going to win the majority, and it’s not going to be a five-seat majority,” said McCarthy in an interview with Punchbowl News during the annual republican retreat in Florida.
  • A red wave is believed to be coming: between President’s Biden’s sinking poll numbers and the fact that the party in power usually loses ground in the midterms, republicans remain highly confident heading into the upcoming elections.
  • 2010 all over again?: while McCarthy did not state how many seats he believed republicans would pick up in this election, the GOP is hopeful that the current political landscape may give them the opportunity to win at the levels they enjoyed in 2010 when they picked up 63 seats in the House.
