Trump hints Pence will not be 2024 running mate

In a recent interview with the Washington Examiner, former President Trump alluded to the fact that he will be moving on from his former Vice President Mike Pence if he decides to runs for president in 2024.

  • What Trump said: “I don’t think the people would accept it … Mike and I had a great relationship except for the very important factor that took place at the end. We had a very good relationship. I haven’t spoken to him in a long time.”
  • The context: while the president repeatedly said he “liked Mike [Pence]”, he made it clear that in the wake of his VP’s wavering support in his final days in office that there would be no place for Pence on a future Trump ticket.
  • Still no announcement: on whether Trump will run or not in 2024. Although, he has dropped a number of hints in interviews this year indicating that he is planning to seek the Republican nomination for a third straight cycle.
