Tuesday, the Youngkin Administration laid out new COVID guideline measures for employers. The updated measures reflect the drop in COVID cases in the Commonwealth and provide the private sector with increased flexibility when it comes to enacting internal policies to stop the spread of the virus. It also includes language signaling that the state may take action against employers who fire employees on the basis of not wearing a mask.
- What’s next: the new policies are expected to go into effect in the coming days. The new guidance provides a laxer stance on measures like masking and social distancing and will replace the stringent regulations put forth by Governor Northam.
- What Youngkin’s saying: “We’re on a path back to normalcy. We’re not quite there yet … but we really have transitioned from the government being able to tell you everything to do, to basically saying, there’s a lot of choice here for people to make about themselves and about their companies.”
- Promises made. Promises kept: Governor Youngkin is delivering on campaign promises to aggressively pursue an end to covid mask and vaccine mandates. This marks yet another step by his administration to fulfill promises made on the campaign trail.
