For the first time yesterday the week-long trucker convoy protesting COVID mandates attempted to enter the nation’s capital. With D.C. law enforcement blocking a number of highway exits and streets the efforts were largely unsuccessful. It marked the first time that the truckers had attempted to moved beyond the Beltway and into the city.
The organizer of the D.C. trucker convoy Brain Brase joined O’Connor & Company to provide insight into what the convoy has been up to the past week and what their plans are moving forward. “We didn’t do anything wrong. We were completely law abiding and peaceful, following the posted speed limits, and [D.C. police] decided to close down every single exit in our path. Even though there was never any intention to go downtown.” Brase went on to make it very clear the convoy never planned on entering the city.
Brase continued: “[to the residents of the Beltway] we are not trying to mess up your commute at all. We are just standing up for our freedoms and exercising our first amendment rights.”
The group had initially planned on conducting their protest on the National Mall but were denied the dates they requested by the National Park’s Service, according to The Washington Post.
