Sen. Paul on Fauci: “No one person should be deemed ‘Dictator-in-Chief’”

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), who has been an outspoken critic of Dr. Fauci through the pandemic, has put forth an amendment that would eliminate Dr. Fauci’s role within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

  • Sen Paul’s plan: would be to eliminate the current one director model and replace it with the three directors overseeing three new institutes, including National Institute of Allergic Diseases, National Institute of Infectious Diseases and National Institute of Immunologic Diseases.
  • What he’s saying: “We’ve learned a lot over the past two years, but one lesson in particular is that no one person should be deemed ‘dictator-in-chief,’” Paul said in a statement. “No one person should have unilateral authority to make decisions for millions of Americans.”
  • The context: Sen. Paul and Dr. Fauci have sparred in several hearings over the origins of COVID and Dr. Fauci’s role in curbing the spread of the virus.
