UPDATE 3/12/22 – The two women who were killed Friday were 73-yer-old Terese Taffer and 76-year-old Jane Bloom, both of NW D.C.
WASHINGTON 3/11/22 – Two women are dead and six other people are in local hospitals after an elderly man lost control of his car, slamming into the outdoor seating area at the Parthenon Restaurant on Connecticut Avenue NW Friday afternoon.
“He’s remained cooperative, and again, there are no indications that this was intentional in any form or fashion,” D.C. Police Commander Duncan Bedlion said.
Police are trying to figure out what caused the man, who was driving alone, to lose control. Bedlion would not give the driver’s age but said the victims range in age from 30 to 80.
“This is rare. This isn’t the type of call…we haven’t had an incident like this in many years, so a car hitting a crowd of people is a very serious event,” said D.C. Fire Chief John Donnelly.
The car stopped when it hit the building, which wasn’t damaged.
Police are hoping people have video that could help their investigation. Videos can be texted to 50411.
