Thursday, Democrats in the Virginia State Senate voted in favor of blocking Governor Glenn Youngkin’s appointees to the state parole board. The move showcases the escalating tensions between Democrats in Richmond and the Youngkin Administration.
- 21-19: the final vote tally blocking four Youngkin appointees to the state Parole Board.
- Retaliation: blocking the appointees comes on the heels of the Republican majority in the House blocking 11 appointees of former Governor Ralph Northam. Democrat State Senator Adam Ebbin (Alexandria) took the Senate floor announcing, “ we weren’t going to be walked all over … I think that the House needs to be taught a lesson.”
- Youngkin responded: by saying he will continue to work toward reforming the parole board and “expose those conspiring to hide this from public view.”
- “This is shocking” said Youngkin. “The Democrats are continuing to cover up a scandal of their own creation.”
