Six teenagers are in the hospital with “critical and could be considered life-threatening” injuries after a single-vehicle crash in Merrifield, Virginia, Monday morning.
Officials say just before 5 a.m. the young driver, who was not licensed, lost control of the vehicle.
“The driver of this Lincoln SUV was likely traveling at a very high rate of speed as it crested the hill. When it crested the hill the driver lost control. The vehicle then struck a tree,” Lt. James Curry, Fairfax County Police Officer, said during a Monday morning press conference.
Five of the teenagers were thrown out of the vehicle during that spin and one other had to be pulled out of the vehicle when police and emergency crews arrived.
The driver, 17, was uninjured. No charges are being filed at this time.
All of the victims are between ages 14 and 17 and are all friends and relatives of one another.
