A quadruple shooting at a DC nightclub killed a former Morgan State University basketball player, Blake Bozeman of SE DC. He was at The Cru on H Street when shots rang out Saturday night. Three others were injured.
“We are troubled and devastated about the events and any loss of life in our city,” DC Mayor Muriel Bowser said at press event Monday. “I know that MPD is very focused right now on the investigation and is looking for community support.”
Mayor Bowser said that there is a cycle of violence occurring in the district that must be navigated.
“We have too many people who don’t have a value for life. Their own or anyone elses and they have access to guns. So that culture of violence inflicts a small number of people, but it’s too many people nonetheless.”
Last weekend’s murder brought the total of DC homicides in 2023 up to 197. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the homicide rate has increased by 29 percent since last year.
Police are looking for suspects in the case. Anyone with information can call the MPD Command Information Center at 202-727-9099 or anonymously text 50411 with information.
