Another rabid raccoon found in Anne Arundel County

Julia Eisen – WMAL News | September 22, 2023

Another raccoon in Anne Arundel County tests positive for rabies. It’s the third this month.

The latest raccoon was found Wednesday in the Laurel Acres community of Pasadena. The day before the Anne Arundel County Department of Health found another rabid raccoon in the Woodland Beach community in Edgewater.

“It is not something that we are happy about that we’ve had three in the last three weeks. Two within the last one week,” Anne Arundel County Enviornmental Health Director Don Curtian told WMAL News.

Curtian said the grand total for this year is seven positive rabid raccoons. This may sound like a lot, but he says it’s not unusual. The Anne Arundel County Department of Health tries to keep the number under double digits.

Still the department is not taking any chances. In every area where the rabid raccoons have been found they’ve have put additional vaccine in those neighborhoods.
