The Virginia General Assembly has officially been called to return to vote on a budget to fund the state for the next two years after failing to do so during the legislative session earlier this year. As confirmed by Senate Clerk Susan Schaar, legislators from around the state will return to Richmond to finalize a budget as well as several other unresolved legislative issues.
Although negotiations have progressed over a budget there appears the two chambers are yet to come to a resolution on a finalized budget proposal. The negotiations have remained stalled over a $3 billion tax reduction that divide the competing proposals offered by each chamber. Governor Youngkin has championed the tax cuts for those struggling in the Commonwealth with rising inflation and has continued to apply pressure to the legislature to get a deal done.
“Virginians are ready for the General Assembly to come together on the budget and deliver much-needed tax relief and investments in education, law enforcement, and behavioral health for Virginians,” said Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) in a statement released by his office on Monday. “I look forward to reviewing their budget proposal.”

Aside from the elephant in the room that is the un-passed state budget, legislators will negotiate a final proposal on how much they are willing to spend to help finance the Washington Commanders new stadium. The team is continue to review bids from both Washington and Maryland as to where the future site of their new stadium will be located.
