Things to Watch in Tonight’s Primary Elections

By WMAL.com

Today voters in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Minnesota and Texas will head to the polls to select their nominees of the upcoming midterm election this Fall. While all eyes will be on the governor’s race in Georgia there are several key races to keep an eye out for today.

  1. Trump’s endorsement power: will be front and center in Georgia’s primary as incumbent Governor Brian Kemp faces off against Trump-backed challenger Senator David Purdue.  In the night’s highest profile race Gov Kemp currently holds a massive polling advantage over Sen Purdue, with the latest polling from Fox News showing Kemp holding a 32-point advantage over Purdue.Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger will also face off against Trump-backed Congressman Jody Hice. The endorsements from the former president to replace the incumbent Republican officials stems from a feud that began following the 2020 election results in Georgia.
  • Big names on the ballots: Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA) will face her first re-election big as faces off against four primary opponents. Greene is expected to soar to victory as she currently sits on a war-chest of $9 million, which is approximately $8.6 million more than the second leading candidate’s fundraising efforts. Former NFL star and Trump-backed Senate Candidate Herschel Walker is also expected to win handedly in his primary election this evening.
  • The Trump un-endorsement effect: Congressman Mo Brooks was once the favorite to win Georgia’s vacant Senate seat. But after Trump officially un-endorsed Brooks the race has tightened up tremendously. Speculations have been raised as to whether Brooks can overcome the devastating loss of the endorsement to win the parties nomination. While he was though to be cooked once the endorsement was pulled, Brooks has seen a recent surge in the polls against former Senate Chief of Staff Katie Britt and Army pilot Mike Durant.
