The Montgomery County school district and police department recently reached an agreement to return police officers to schools effective last week. On Tuesday, the two sides announced the agreement to the public.
Following a mass hysteria from the left regarding the role of police officers in schools last year the county made the decision to remove resource officers from school buildings. The decision outraged many parents in Montgomery County, who, because of a rise in crime rates and school shooting incidents, wanted a stronger police presence in schools to ensure the safety and security of their children.
The agreement signed by Superintendent Monifa McKnight and Police Chief Marcus Jones outlines the role of the new formed community engagement officer and the school police officers. The agreement also stipulates that police officers stationed in schools must go through a minimum over 40 hours of training on conflict resolution, school policies and threat assessments.
